Charlotte, NC –Indiblu Creative has been enlisted to create an anti-stigma campaign related to mental illness targeted to elementary through high school aged kids with a separate effort for adults. The reality is that mental health illness affects millions of Americans and most likely someone you know and love. Indiblu has developed the “Reality Check” campaign to educate kids and adults about what mental illness is, where to get help, and most of all the fact that it is more common than people realize. The message will be communicated via public speaking engagements, presentations, a Facebook page, website, newspaper inserts, take home literature, and more.
With depression and suicide on the rise in N.C. counties, the federal government has provided grant funding to disseminate information regarding mental illness. The materials being created by Indiblu for Monarch Behavioral will focus on educating the public about the truth of mental illness and reducing the stigma associated with it.
Often mental illness is associated with negative connotations such as straight jackets and hospitals but most often it is a matter of not wanting to get out of bed in the morning or struggling to make it through your day. This campaign is designed to strip away the preconceived ideas people have about mental illness and build new associations about how seeking support and being an understanding friend can have a positive effect on yourself or those you know and love.
By giving people a checklist of warning signs and encouraging them to check-in with family and friends, the “Reality Check” campaign helps the community to understand that mental health illness is a legitimate condition and that here is help for people of all ages with varying degrees of illness. The goal of the campaign will be to educate people about mental illness and break down the barriers to receiving treatment.
Kimber Flynn, Indiblu Creative principal and creative director said, “We are proud to be involved with this important awareness effort. With the pressures of today’s world, it is important that people seek assistance in getting through tough times. We plan to create messaging that will reveal the surprising commonality of mental illness and inspire people to get help.”
